Update on Provincial Labour Action
It has been some time since our last update, so we want to connect with you all today. At this time, there are no significant developments to report. We are aware that both parties in the labour dispute - the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) - met yesterday and have indicated that additional meetings are planned later this week. We continue to pray for a timely resolution to this labour situation.
ALL FORT MCMURRAY CATHOLIC SCHOOLS REMAIN CLOSED TO STUDENTS FOR THE DURATION OF THIS JOB ACTION.
Government of Alberta Information:
The Government of Alberta has announced supports for families during the closure of schools. This includes a Parent Payment Program specific for families with children 12 and under.
To register for the Parent Payment Program one must enter the Alberta Student Number (ASN) of their child.
This 9 digit number can be found at the top of your child(ren)’s report card directly under their name on Edsby.
On Edsby, this number also appears as the “Ministry ID.”
Please note that your address must match across multiple systems, including your verified Alberta.ca account and the information provided to your child’s school. You may need to update the address on your Alberta.ca account if you moved recently
If you need to update the student record to your current address, please reach out to your school office directly. We appreciate your patience and understanding as our school teams are receiving a high number of requests at this time.
The Government of Alberta has shared the email address parentpaymentsupport@gov.ab.ca for families needing additional support (they do request that no personal information be shared in the email).
Previous Updates:
The Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) began a strike action on Monday October 6, 2025. The Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA) began a lockout on the afternoon of October 9, 2025.
A lockout and a strike are different actions within the collective bargaining process. A strike is initiated by employees, while a lockout is initiated by the employer. Both are legal steps intended to support continued progress toward an agreement.

We deeply value the dedication, expertise, and commitment of our teachers and all staff members. It is our hope a fair agreement that supports our students, staff, and families is reached as soon as possible.
