Good afternoon Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Staff and Families,

As we shared with you yesterday, we are pleased to share that a tentative resolution has been reached regarding the job action (strike). This tentative agreement remains subject to ratification by the membership of CUPE Local 2559.

If ratified by the membership, CUPE Local 2559 staff would return to work on Wednesday March 19, 2025. No details of this tentative settlement will be shared until after ratification.

School operations:

To ensure a smooth and safe transition back to full operations, there will be a staggered reopening of some programming:

• Specialized Classes:
  • Independent Living Program (ILP) will fully reopen on Wednesday March 19. Schools will provide families with specific start times and transportation details later today.
  • Vocational Education (Voc. Ed) will fully reopen on Wednesday March 19. Specific information will be provided directly to the families by the school later today. 
• Individual Students who were not eligible to attend during the strike can return full time on Wednesday March 19.
• Early Entry Program (EEP) Classes will resume on Wednesday March 19.
• Out of School Care (OSC) Programs will reopen no earlier than Thursday March 20. 
  • Direct communication to registered families will come from the OSC Program Manager later today. 

As we return to full staff operations: 

• As staff return to work we still ask families to please continue to limit phone calls to the main office. 
• Please continue to use Edsby to report attendance. 

Thank you for your grace, patience and understanding during these challenging times. We recognize how difficult and prolonged this situation has been for all. We are extremely grateful that a resolution has been found that brings all students and our valued support staff back to school.
