Labour Disruption Update- Week of November 18-22

Good morning Fort McMurray Catholic Schools family,

As we expect you are aware, CUPE Local 2559 has commenced a labour action (strike). Below we share a schedule with the most up to date information we have at this time.

Fort McMurray Roman Catholic Separate School Division will remain open during this labour disruption. We understand that the absence of these valuable staff members on strike days will be noticed and that daily operations will be a challenge.

Week of November 18 - 22:

  • CUPE Local 2559 has posted their strike schedule for the week.
  • Program closures only happen on strike action days in your school. Programs are open all other days.
  • We have been informed that strike action will only happen one day a week in any given facility.

  • Father Mercredi HS
  • Elsie Yanik Catholic School
  • Sister Mary Phillips School
  • Division Office

What happens in strike schools on this day: 

  • No EEP Classes in striking schools (EEP classes open in all other schools)
  • No Specialized Program Classes (ILP/Voc. Ed.- if applicable)
  • Individual Students not eligible to attend on strike days have been previously contacted by their schools.
  • OSC Programs Closed in striking schools (OSC Programs open in all other schools)
