Labour Disruption Update- Communication for Monday November 25
We wish to provide you an update in regards to the ongoing CUPE Local 2559 labour disruption within our schools. Last weekend we were able to provide you with a schedule for the week as it was posted by the Local. This week that appears not to be the case. It is our understanding at this time that a schedule for tomorrow will not be shared until possibly very late this evening.
How we will communicate this to you this evening:
- When we have information we are confident in sharing we will email, text, and post in Edsby for all schools who will not have Support Staff tomorrow morning.
- All remaining schools will receive an email and post on the Division river of news in Edsby.
- This may be a good time to make sure you are subscribed to receive text messages via School Messenger from your School and School Division. If you are not sure you are subscribed, you can text Y to 724665 to reconfirm your subscription.
What this will mean in strike schools tomorrow:
- Out of School Care (OSC) Programs will be closed at schools with strike activity (All other programs will be open).
- Early Entry Program (EEP) Classes will be closed at schools with strike activity (All other programs will be open).
- Specialized Classes (Vocational Education at Father Mercredi HS and Independent Living Programs at Father Beauregard and Holy Trinity HS) will be closed if there is strike activity in those facilities.
- Individual Students with exceptional needs not eligible to attend on strike days have been previously contacted by their schools about their specific situation. These students will not be able to attend school tomorrow if they are attending a school with strike activity on Monday.
Program closures only happen on strike action days in your school. We have been informed that strike action will only happen one day a week in any given facility.
The latest updates on the CUPE Local 2559 strike action will continue to be posted on our website.
While recognizing the right of our support staff to engage in legal work action by striking, we know this action has an impact on our classrooms and schools. We remain committed to bargaining and working to find a resolution.
If you have questions specific to your child(ren), please contact your child’s school directly.
Thank you for your grace, patience and understanding. We will continue to share updates with staff and all families when information is confirmed and can be shared.
