Jumpstart!

Thank you to Jumpstart for funding a portion of our swim program this year!

During each session, each individual student partakes in an individualized, adapted swim lesson by a trained instructor. A support member from the student's school (educational assistant, teacher, physiotherapist, occupational therapist) will also observe, participate and assist in the lesson. The support member from the school will then have the student work on the skills the instructor has provided for the child. Skills are adapted and changed by the swim instructor and vary from child to child.

This program meets the Alberta Education Physical Education and Wellness Curriculum which addresses: physical education and health/wellness education and, through a healthy school community, promotes the holistic development of students in five of the eight dimensions: physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and occupational. The Wellness Component includes the goal for students of Active Living by developing physical literacy through movement and active living supports to promote well-being across a lifespan.

Many of these children require significant adaptations to their regular physical education class at school. Swimming is a great way for them to be physically active and work on a life skill!
