(FORT MCMURRAY, AB - March 12, 2024) -  At the Regular Board Meeting of the Fort McMurray Catholic Board of Education on February 12, 2024 the Board of Trustees passed a resolution for a by-election to be held on April 8, 2024. 

The nomination period for this by-election closed at noon on March 11, 2024. The Returning Officer has reported two nominations for the position of Trustee have been filed. The confirmed candidates for the position of Trustee are:
 

• Timothy Byron
• Louis Elliott Pierre

A by-election was necessitated by the resignation of a Trustee in November of 2023. In accordance with article 81(1)(3) of the Education Act, the Board must fill the vacancy by holding a by-election. While general election dates are set through legislation, school boards set their own by-election dates.
