As we expect you are aware CUPE Local 2559 has commenced a full withdrawal of services (strike) within Fort McMurray Catholic Schools. 

Week of January 13-17, 2025:

• There will be CUPE Local 2559 Strike Activity in all Fort McMurray Catholic Schools until further notice. 

School Operations:

• Early Entry Program (EEP) Classes remain closed.
• Specialized Classes (Vocational Education at Father Mercredi HS and Independent Living Programs at Father Beauregard and Holy Trinity HS): 
  • Alternate programming possibilities and scheduling has been shared with families. 
• Individual Students not eligible to attend on strike days have been previously contacted by their schools. 
• Out of School Care (OSC) Programs remain closed.
• Families are advised to possibly allow extra time due to potential delays caused by picketing. Designated student drop-off areas will be supervised. If you have any issues during drop off or pick up due to strike activity please contact your school administration.

Important to note: 

• Please limit phone calls to the main office. 
• Please use Edsby to report attendance. 
• We ask that all primary, non-emergent communication (relaying messages, asking questions, seeking information, etc.) continues to happen via email to your child’s classroom teacher or through Edsby.
• As always, we kindly remind our families to keep their children home from school if they are unwell, especially during this cold and flu season.

While recognizing the right of our support staff to engage in legal work action by striking, we know this action has an impact on our classrooms and schools. We remain committed to bargaining and working to find a resolution.
