FMCSD Update- CUPE Local 2559 Strike Activity Schedule December 16- 20
Good morning Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Families,
We would like to inform you that overnight we’ve seen a schedule for CUPE Local 2559 strike activity has been shared for this week (December 16-20).
We understand receiving these notifications late in the evening, or early in the morning, can be disruptive and difficult for families and staff alike. Please know we are sharing this information as quickly as possible.
Please note- As this schedule is shared for the week we will not provide further updates unless information happens to change.

What this means for schools with strike activity on Tuesday December 17:
- Early Entry Program (EEP) Classes will be closed.
- Specialized Classes (Vocational Education at Father Mercredi HS and Independent Living Programs at Father Beauregard and Holy Trinity HS) will be closed.
- Individual Students not eligible to attend on strike days have been previously contacted by their schools. These students will not be able to attend school on Tuesday.
- Out of School Care (OSC) Programs will be closed at schools with strike activity.
Important to note:
- Program closures only happen on strike action days in your school.
- Please limit phone calls to the main office. We ask that all primary, non-emergent communication (relaying messages, asking questions, seeking information, etc.) continues to happen via email to your child’s classroom teacher or through Edsby.
- The latest updates on the CUPE Local 2559 strike action will continue to be posted on our website.
- If you have questions specific to your child(ren), please contact your child’s school directly
While recognizing the right of our support staff to engage in legal work action by striking, we know this action has an impact on our classrooms and schools. We remain committed to bargaining and working to find a resolution.
