Attention all Fort McMurray Catholic Schools Families,

We wish to advise you that we have recently seen an update regarding CUPE Local 2559 Strike Activity in Schools. CUPE Local 2559 has stated they will begin a full withdrawal of services (full strike) beginning Tuesday January 7, 2025. 

Week of January 6-10, 2025:

• Monday January 6, 2025- There will be NO strike activity in Fort McMurray Catholic Schools. 
• Beginning Tuesday January 7, 2025- There will be CUPE Local 2559 Strike Activity in ALL Fort McMurray Catholic Schools until further notice. 

What this strike activity means for schools beginning Tuesday January 7, 2025:

• Early Entry Program (EEP) Classes will be closed (refunds will be available at the end of strike activity). 
• Specialized Classes (Vocational Education at Father Mercredi HS and Independent Living Programs at Father Beauregard and Holy Trinity HS) will be closed on Tuesday. Alternate programming and scheduling will be shared as quickly as possible to begin as soon as Wednesday January 8. 
• Individual Students not eligible to attend on strike days have been previously contacted by their schools. These students will not be able to attend school for the duration of strike activity. 
• Out of School Care (OSC) Programs will be closed (refunds will be available at the end of strike activity). 

Important to note: 

• Please limit phone calls to the main office. We ask that all primary, non-emergent communication (relaying messages, asking questions, seeking information, etc.) continues to happen via email to your child’s classroom teacher or through Edsby.
• The latest updates on the CUPE Local 2559 strike action will continue to be posted on our website.
• If you have questions specific to your child(ren), please contact your child’s school directly

While recognizing the right of our support staff to engage in legal work action by striking, we know this action has an impact on our classrooms and schools. We remain committed to bargaining and working to find a resolution.
