Catholic Schools as Field Hospitals of Healing and Unity

Join us for an evening with Charles Weckend as we explore our collective journey towards healing and unity. Through sharing his personal experiences and unpacking some of the theology of Pope Francis, Charles will outline how Catholic schools stand as pillars of compassion, embodying Pope Francis's call for the Church to serve as a field hospital. As we gather, we recognize the challenges faced by all students, including those who identify as members of the queer community, without judgment or prejudice. Through dialogue and a commitment to our Catholic identity, we aim to foster an environment of understanding and acceptance, embracing the diverse experiences and perspectives within our community.

Together, we strive to address wounds and promote unity, guided by the principles of love and inclusivity. Central to this mission is building and nurturing a relationship with Jesus, whose teachings inspire us to love one another unconditionally and to walk alongside each other in our journey of faith and healing.

Charles Weckend completed his theological studies in Rome, Ottawa, and Boston. Weckend taught in the Religious Education Program at Newman College. He is also a former Religious Education Coordinator of Fort McMurray Catholic Schools.
